In the latest from the capital, the Delhi government has informed the Planning Commission that they are facing problems in implementing the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme in the state i.e. in transferring benefits directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The problem being faced is that banks are not willing to open zero balance accounts for such a large number of people.
They have been demanding that a minimum balance should be made necessary in these accounts. They are complaining that once the beneficiary withdraws all the money that they have received, then his/ her account will be of zero value to the bank. For this purpose, the Delhi state government has asked the Planning Commission to have a talk with the Finance Ministry so as to find a solution to this problem.
Meanwhile the state government in Maharashtra has taken back its decision of not providing wages to the government employees who do not have their respective Aadhar cards. Earlier it was decided that the government employees in 5 districts of Maharashtra will not be provided with their salaries in case they fail to submit their Aadhaar card details before the deadline. But due to some technical problems that have crept up, the government has decided to extend its deadline by 1 month.
Video conferencing will be carried out in these districts by the Ministry to know about the problems being faced by the people. On the basis of this survey, feasible solutions will be found out. The Ministry wants to know what the people really feel about Aadhaar based DBT scheme and their bank accounts being linked with their Aadhar cards. A record will be maintained to see that how many people have their bank accounts linked with Aadhaar in these districts under the DBT scheme.
Students of Government Inter School in Nainbag region of Garhwal district in Uttarakhand have to suffer a lot in order to get them enrolled for their UID cards. This is due to the dislocation of the enrolment centres in this region. Students from a number of schools as well as colleges have been coming to this school for their enrolments.
A large number of students are going back without getting enrolled due to the difficulties being created by the concerned company. Students have been travelling long distances to reach this school but irresponsible behaviour on the company’s part has been creating chaos for them. These students have expressed their grief over this situation.
