By Year End, all States will have Pension through DBT

The Union Rural Development Minister of India, Jairam Ramesh informed that once the DBT i.e. the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme is implemented throughout the country; all the pension deserving beneficiaries under various schemes and services of the government will be provided with their pensions under this scheme.

He has promised the citizens of India that this implementation will be initialized before the starting of next year. He further added that when summed up, the number of beneficiaries under various schemes and services of the government like disabled, old age, widow and many more may see a rise from the current 2.7 crore to 8 crore in the near future.

Additionally the Finance Minister of India, P Chidambaram said that all the banks in the country will have to lend a helping hand for the successful implementation of the DBT scheme throughout the country. The FM said he believed that the banks will cooperate with the government and that at each of the branches of banks in the public sector, corresponding ATM machines will be installed.

This installation work is supposed to be completed by the end of March next year, 2014. In his speech, he also encouraged the insurance companies in the public sector to set up respective branches of their firm in the small towns as well as cities as well.

In another report from Mysore district in Andhra Pradesh, 25 new Aadhaar enrollment centres / camps are to be set up to speed up the process of enrollment. This has in fact shown positive results so far. Out of the total population of 2.9 million people residing in Mysore, 2.6 million people have already received their Aadhaar numbers. The CEO i.e. the Chief Executive Officer of e- Governance Centre provided this information. However, the LPG subsidy service linked Aadhaar card services are yet to be implemented in this district.
