Chhattisgarh Refuses, Manipur Accepts DBT

****
On one hand, the central government is trying its best to implement the Aadhaar number based DBT i.e. Direct Benefit Transfer scheme throughout the country. While on the other hand, Chhattisgarh government has refused to implement DBT scheme in the state. Raman Singh, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh has refused to implement this project in the entire state. He was addressing a program at one of the districts in state when he made this announcement.

In his speech, the CM said that the distribution of subsidy as well as ration to the poor people through the DCT i.e. Direct Cash Transfer scheme was an impractical approach. He further added that the Chhattisgarh government has guaranteed lacs of poor people in the state that they will be provided food grains by enforcing India’s first security act for food. He said that the act aimed at bringing reforms in the working of the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Meanwhile both the Planning Commission as well as the Supreme Court has encouraged this PDS approach being followed by Chhattisgarh. While the DBT project was rejected by the Chhattisgarh government, a completely different case has been seen in the state of Manipur. The Chief Minister of Manipur, O Ibobi Singh informed that the state government of Manipur was making preparations to implement the Aadhaar based DBT project in state as soon as possible. He further added that people can now take benefits from welfare schemes such as scholarships, pensions and many others provided by the government.

These benefits will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries under this DBT scheme.
The Finance Minister of India, P Chidambaram said that corruption will be curbed to around 95% in the country once the DBT scheme is implemented properly. The corruption caused due to sneaking out of people’s money will stop now due to direct transfer of funds. People will have safer as well as faster access to their share of benefits as well as money. He added that time has changed now for the good.
