The United Progressive Alliance Government’s chairperson Sonia Gandhi launched aadhaar card based Direct Benefit Scheme on January 1. The project was started in 20 regions in first month and 43 regions were covered in the first three months. The project is going to be extended in 78 districts which also includes districts of Uttar pradesh, Amethi and Raebareli. 73 new districts will be added under Direct Benefit scheme and the implementation will be started from July 1. 43 districts are already included under DBT scheme and adding another 78 will make the total count to 121 total districts.

Under DBT scheme the people who are disable, widow and of old age will get pensions if they are from these 78 new regions and are having their aadhaar cards. The areas which which will be included are from the states of West Bengal, Orissa , Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh.Honorable Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh checked the overall status of the project when it was launched in other regionsand then decided that it should be added to another 78 districts.

This move will facilitate government to expand and split test at a larger level. The results will be analysed to prepare a plan for pan India implementation of the DBT scheme. Beside covering all India government also want to cover few more services specially PDS system under DBT scheme so as to remove the corruption at the lower level and provide every citizen the benefits directly in their bank account.

Beside the plus points there are few downsides which are needed to be evaluated so as not to harm the common man. This project matters a lot to the government of India and also to congress party who want to come back for the third consecutive term after so many serious charges of corruption. This project is game changer for them and Congress had shown some really high political advantage from Direct Benefit Transfers.
