****
The government has been finding ways to make the Aadhaar cards more useful in the country. Lately, it has replaced the birth year with date of birth (DOB). Earlier only birth year of citizens was supposed to be printed on the letters. This new rule brought by the central government will certainly help all those people who have to submit proofs for their age at any point of time. This can be used for accessing a number of governmental as well as non-governmental schemes and services.

Avinash Prabhune, the Right to Information act (RTI) activist informed that till now only the birth year was printed on the Aadhaar letters but seeing at the consensus as well as the code of conduct in our country, now complete date of birth of every individual will be printed on their respective cards. This issue was raised by him before the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as well as Nandan Nilekani. He contacted the UIDAI earlier during the end of last year as well. Later on he received a positive response from the Planning Commission informing him that now onwards date of birth will be printed on the Aadhaar letters, hence replacing the birth year.

In Shri Muktsar Sahib in Punjab, competition can be seen among people coming for enrolments. After knowing about the importance of Aadhaar in the coming times, people are trying to get enrolled as soon as possible. Here, the location of enrolment centres has been changed many times which has caused confusion for people. Several protests have been seen here in the past few days.

Apart from this, another issue that has been bothering the public is the rude behaviour of the staff at these enrolment centres. This staffs is appointed on contract basis by the controlling company. At a certain centre, people came for enrolment travelling long distances and the centre was closed without any prior notice. This created tension among people.

When asked the staff members, they said that it was not their fault and that the school authorities denied providing any space for setting up enrolment centres within the school premises. Agitated people starting protesting and even went to the District Collector (DC) with their story. After witnessing this situation, K S Raj, the Assistant Commissioner came to the school as heard both the parties regarding this issue.

Later on he asked the staff members to start enrolment for that day only and promised the people that separate enrolment centre will be set up later on. The BDPO office is the new centre for Aadhaar enrolment here. Around 150 individuals are being enrolled here with the help of 2 machines, as told by the District Coordinator Narinder Sidhu.
